Take another look at Ballarat. This rural city is ever changing as many of the older buildings get a facelift or refit bringing them back to their former glory. Ballarat offers a visual splendour of historic buildings interspersed with modern shopping. So go and visit places like Sovereign Hill or the beautiful Ballarat Botanical Gardens. There's plenty of places to pick out a cafe or restaurant and immerse yourself in the history of the town. Lake Wendouree has disappeared and a lot of bird life with it but that doesn't mean the lake isn't still a worthwhile destination. You can still walk the length of the lake (if you're fit enough), visit the botanical gardens or try the cafes around the lake including the pavillion. And lets be honest how often do you get to see the lake when it is empty. |

It is an area rich in history with much of the past wealth on display especially in the Victorian streetscapes of Bendigo and Ballarat.
